It seems Microsoft are meddling with the world again... Apparently, whenever any IBM compatible users log onto the internet, 'dear' Mr Gates' company are making alterations to the way Word, Explorer & other programmes on your hard drive react. The net result of this is that previously 'universal' file formats such as rtf, gif, mpeg etc. are encrypted so you need microsoft software to properly receive them. We can understand why some people prefer to have a Windows based machine (Apple were 11 years ahead on that one) but does no-one care that the choice to opt for an alternative application, Netscape for example, is gradually being made impossible. There are also serious implications when a company starts 'manipulating' the workings of computers that are private property. Personal computers, company computers and, indeed, government computers. In the real world, if someone gained access to your property
and messed with your computer, severely limiting your communication
abilities, this would come under "criminal damage". Many of my colleagues with IBM compatible computers can now no longer send attachments to either this office or many other people. We (using Netscape and with AppleMac), however, can still send attachments to everyone! <tee-hee> In a media such as the internet, which is supposed to unite the world, what do Microsoft think they are doing? They obviously are suffering from dyslexia and want to untie the world. The last time anyone started to segregate the human race to such an enormous degree, they were finally defeated... ...but only after Emperor HiroHitto sent a personal invitation to the reluctant Americans. Who will wake America from it's complacency today? |
