Roman Catholic Worship

Liturgy

There are several liturgical rites of the Catholic Church. Most English-speaking Catholics follow the Roman Rite. There are also a number of Eastern Rites (which I'd like to find more on-line resources for).

The Mass (of the Roman Rite)

The Divine Office (of the Roman Rite)

Eastern Rites

See also a directory of Eastern Rite Catholic Churches in the US, courtesy St. Michael's.

The Byzantine Rite

See the unofficial page for the Byzantine Catholic Church in America.

  • Mass: The Byzantine Rite uses the liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, which you can find here. You can also look at the Orthodox version at ocf.org.
  • Divine Office: This page has the service texts to parts of the Divine Office as celebrated in the Orthodox Church. The Byzantine Catholic version is very similar.

Here are some Web pages from parishes in various eastern rites:

The Coptic Rite

The Coptic Catholic liturgy of St. Basil is very similar to the Coptic Orthodox version

Sacraments

These are the seven sacraments of the Church. (If you know of some more links to relevant information on them, please let me know.)

Other Ceremonies

Some information on Catholic burial and funerals is provided by the Associated Catholic Cemeteries of Seattle.
